Mazda CX-7

Building on the huge success of their RX-8 and the new MX-5, Mazda have now developed yet another cool vehicle in the form of the CX-7. The new model won't be in UK showrooms until early 2007, but it looks like it might well be worth waiting for if you're in the market for a medium size petrol engined SUV.
The Mazda CX-7 looks like a great new entry into the compact SUV sector as it has a style which, in our opinion, sets it appart from its competitors. Its lines are sleek and you can tell that it will be a great drive just by looking at it.
The car is clearly aimed at those drivers who are prepared to admit to themselves that while they like the sound of a 4x4 SUV, they're not planning on taking it too far from the highway. This we feel is a good thing as so many SUVs have incredible off road performance which their drivers never exploit. The Mazda looks like it will perform on the tarmac better than most of these large vehicles, so you should get many of the benefits of a larger car, without having to put up with too many of the downsides of an SUV.
Don't expect the new Mazda to have a bargain basement price tag though. It's expected that it will start at around £24,000 with top of the range models selling for £30,000 or more when it's launched in April or May 2007. That puts it right at the top end of the prices for the highest specification RAV 4, but we figure that even at that kind of price it's still a good value for money package.
On the other hand, if you're after a diesel SUV, don't hold your breath for the Mazda. It's believed that only the 244bhp 2.3 litre turbochanged engine will be available at launch.
